BAILANDO BAHIA BLANCA CARLOS DI SARLI, EN EL FILM ASSASSINATION TANGO (GERALDINE ROJAS & OSVALDO PAIVA)

Javier Rodriguez and Geraldine Rojas present a beautiful sensuous tango at Gavito's show in "La Trastienda" BUENOS AIRES 2002

編按:現在再看小哈和Geraldine以前跳的,覺得Javier現在變得更沉穩了。

Before setting out on tour round Europe, this magnificent dancing couple spoke to us about the relationship that joins them as performers and as friends. "I'm used to improvising and Andrea started to pull things out of that hat." Javier talks about his new hair color, the forgotten great milongueros and the dreams they have. "I'd like to dance at the Colon."

Javier Sebastian Rodriguez, his full name, radiates his love for tango at every step. Also in every phrase. In every detail. During the conversation and talking of photos, with thought and heart. Perhaps we've discovered something? NO. But it must be said, so here goes! and Andrea Misse is his faithful team mate, unconditional. More silent and totally dependent on his companion. Since that night they had their debut at the Sunderland in 2005, to this date they have experienced a lot. "For us it seems like yesterday, but in fact loads of lovely good thinks have happened...," he says. "A time of much growth. Favorable is to say little, words can't express the happiness at both artistic and personal level," she says. "Getting to know Javier, being with him, has been a big boost for me, things that were deep down in me and have been able to come out and surprise me every day."

After their debut, they started traveling and have performed in many countries: France, Italy, Germany, Sweden Greece, Holland, Taiwan, Slovenia... Bologna, in Italy, was the operational base. The achieved success base on talent and work. Young, elegant, good-looking, magnificent dancers, before departing once again on tour round Europe they granted this exclusive interview to La Milonga Argentina one night in San Telmo, with the music of Di Sarli and Troilo in the background.

- Is there a lot of adrenalin?

J: Lots, lots, because... I'm used to improving everything and she started to pull things out of a hat, and it was really good!

- What do the two of you convey? How far do you think you've come?

Javier: On the one hand I feel as if we're only just beginning... And that we give people what they were expecting of us. Obviously, they'll always want more and more, but our success has been to cover the most important part. We give the public what we're most able to.

- Are you the representatives of the young milongueros? Are you modern, avant-garde?

Javier: For modern we still have a long way to go. We're more technique and heart. We're young ones who dance the tango of before. Tango is neither old nor young, because tango doesn't age. We're the ones who get old!

- How do the two of you maintain the partnership? What does each one contribute? Because one sees you dancing and you convey the feeling that you know what you want and where you're going.

J: It doesn't matter what it is that has to be contributed, all that matters is that they're there. And I don't know if it's fifty-fifty, because sometimes I put more and I tell here not to put anything, and other times she's the one in charge of everything. That varies... Each of us gives to the other what they need. I need such a thing and she's ready to give it to me, that's how we work.

A: We take everything very naturally. The friendship we have means we don't program ourselves so much... it happens and it works!

J: Maybe three days pass and we don't talk to each other and the we need each other, we call and we're there.

- Weren't you afraid of comparisons with your previous partner?

J: No. Because my mother told me: "Go on, because this one's different. And they're not going to compare her."... She's blond! (He smiles). If I had been afraid of comparisons, I would even have changed the way I dance, because they way I dance makes her dance the same way as the other one used to. But it doesn't bother me because Andrea is completely different. They're two completely different woman, the one doesn't is nothing to do with the other, that's why they can't be compared. One's a lioness and other's a panther.

- And lovers, how are things with you both?

(They look at each other and smile)

J: We have may lovers... and "as well"! We've both had lots of time with other relationships...

A: Always! the time came when it was good to be on our own. Give pleasure to your body, Macarena...!

J: We're our own commitment.

"There are milongueros who are forgotten"

Super-professionals, Javier and Andrea take care to program every display according to the place, the floor the moment and they choose the clothing and music accordingly. The responsibilities - contracts, tours, e-mails - are also shared between the two of them.

- To what do you attribute the change of look?

J: I knew you were going to ask that...! One does there kinds of crazy things when you're doing well, when you have the courage to do it. Like I'm going to cut my hair soon, before I wanted to invent something, I don't know... My tango isn't going to change fore the color of the hair.

- Technically, what do you think of the changes of axis, the tipping over?

J: It's all part of an attraction towards the youngsters. If that makes the youngsters get into tango, then let them do it; afterwards, people choose what they most like...

- Nowadays there are lots of schools. Does any of them attract you curiosity?

J: I don't know, I've no idea... We gave lessons because we wanted to do something in Buenos Aires beyond the lessons we gave at the World Tango Festival. We've always given lessons in other languages and in other countries.

A: The proposal was a kind of seminar, in one month it starts and ends. It's good. Abroad it's necessary to educate people, to explain it to them, whereas here they pay more attention to what they see and afterwards to what they hear.

- And the country, how do the two of you see it now?

Andrea: After so many years living abroad, I had to come back and rediscover Buenos Aires. I didn't notice so much insecurity as they had told me. One thing's certain: the milonga doesn't change. It's the same as ever!

J: I also note it a bit calmer, I think there are less abductions, no?... The milonga is the same as ever, although the people go changing. I'd like there to be recognition of a whole load of people who know such a lot and are forgotten.

- Who, for example?

J: Portalea. Margarita. El Chino and lots of other milongueros. There are loads of them!...

- Gavito told me once that there was so much rivalry because they all want to be the Number One...

J: I don't want to be No. 1. I want to be me. And to have my place and for nobody to upset me... nothing more. I don't criticize and I don't go around speaking badly of anyone.

- A dream of each one?

J: I've danced in the best places in the world, but a dream as an Argentine is to dance in the Colon.

A: For me it would be to repeat it since I already had it come true one night and it's to dance again with all my family, with all my brothers and sisters, the Misse.
